Target Milling
Our process of Target Milling has allowed us to retire our infra-red (heats) machine for good. It's intent from the words of the designer of the infra-red was to remove bird baths from such things as tennis courts etc., and to lower high spots holding back water. It was never intended to do asphalt repairs. With new updated equipment we now can offer repairs competitive with heats on a per square foot price. The main difference is that milling allows us to seamlessly remove old asphalt to a depth of 2-4 inches and replace with new asphalt, whereas heats burn out the existing asphalt cement and turn it to ashes. A few placed shovels full of asphalt is then used to give it color and to hide the damage done by the infra-red repair. The existing cracks are only masked by scraping a rake across the heated areas and re-rolled. No material is removed from infra-red repairs. All infra-red repairs are temporary at best, and usually cause more damage than good. See Gallery of failed infra-reds. These repairs are done in a cookie cutter fashion of a 5x7 foot area thus many times wasting square footage that is unnecessary. Milling can be done as narrow as 1 foot to the width of the existing asphalt. A paver is used for larger areas thus eliminating the piece mail of multiple infra-red repairs strung together. We will update and provide new photos of competitors infra-reds and as well as our Target Milling procedures. A CD of the Target Milling process is available upon request. This is the same method the state and county uses to replace roadways. It has been told to us by many property owners that this is the only type of repair other than full depth that will be allowed on their property.
