Filling the cracks in parking lots and driveways is one of the most important and effective ways of protecting asphalt...whether it be a new or old surface.

We use only materials that meet or exceed federal specifications.  These materials come in a solid form which requires melting.   The crackfiller is put down in a liquid state and quickly returns to a pliable solid form.

New cracks are routed to a 1 to 1 ratio (width to depth).  All cracks, new or previously filled are then cleaned with a heat lance.  The heat lance uses compressed air to clean the cracks while scorching the cracks with a torch to eliminate any moisture from the cracks and side walls.  This procedure will assure that the filler will properly adhere to the asphalt.  Typically, a 2 inch band will cover the crack during this filling process to eliminate water seepage in the crack and to keep the filler from pulling away from the side walls.

Cracking is a common occurrance in both asphalt and concrete surfaces which can not be prevented.  It can be caused by base failure, extreme weight, weather or simply just age.  The major contributor to cracking is the movement caused by the frost that comes and goes out of the ground during the winter.

Sealcoating asphalt can also help in minimizing cracking.  Because it acts like a sunblock, it prevents the sun from oxidizing the surface.  This keeps the asphalt flexible and less likely to become dry and brittle.
